Welcome to the 2026-2027 school year! We hope you had a restful summer and a great start to the school year.
The Office of Student Enrollment manages admissions for NYC Public Schools and programs for grades 2-K through high school. Below, you’ll find key information about which admissions processes your child(ren) may be eligible for this year. Please note: All dates listed below are subject to change, and any updates will be announced and communicated directly to families.
🎓 High School Admissions
Eligibility: Students currently in 8th grade or first-time 9th graders.
Applications open: October 6
Specialized High School registration closes: October 30
Applications (High School and LaGuardia) close: December 4
Offer release: March 3

🏫 Middle School Admissions
Eligibility: Students currently in 5th grade—or 6th grade if their elementary school ends in 6th grade.
Application opens: October 14
Mark Twain I.S. 239 (21K329) and District 21 Talent Tests registration closes: November 2
Application closes: December 11
Offer release: April 7

🌟 Kindergarten Admissions
Eligibility: Children born in 2022
Application opens: December 9
Application closes: January 22

👧 3-K & Pre-K Admissions
Eligibility:
Pre-K: Children born in 2023
3-K: Children born in 2024
Applications open: January 13
Applications close: February 26
Pre-K offer release: May 11

👶2-K Admissions
Eligibility: Children born in 2025

💡 Gifted & Talented (Grades 1–4)
Eligibility: Students currently in kindergarten through 3rd grade may be eligible to apply for G&T programs in grades 1–4. Eligibility is based on report card grades.
Application opens: April 19
Application closes: May 7
Results release: June 10
